Essencia Single Malt Whisky Barrel Chunks bring genuine NZ whisky character to your spirit, adding natural colour, aroma, oak and rich whisky depth for a smoother, more rounded finish. Because sometimes your spirit needs a barrel, but your shed really doesn't.
Made from freshly emptied whisky barrels from Pokeno Whisky, these chunks are cut from oak that has matured single malt whisky for 4–10 years. The whisky-soaked chunks retain the barrel's charred interior, delivering genuine barrel character without the need for additional flavouring.

How To Use
Pop the chunks into a fine straining bag before soaking — it makes draining easier and saves you from chasing little bits of oak around your filtering setup.
Add 2.5L of spirit per 500g of barrel chunks, cover and soak for up to 7 days.
First soak: Up to 7 days for rich whisky flavour and dark colour.
Second soak: Add a further 2.3L of spirit and soak for up to 19 days for balanced oak & whisky character.
Third soak: Add a further 2.3L of spirit and soak for 5–6 weeks for lighter whisky notes & stronger oak.
Once you're happy with the flavour, drain and filter before bottling. You can also blend portions from different soaks to create your own unique whisky style.
Brew Tip
Don't be afraid to taste as you go — oak keeps doing its thing, so pulling the chunks when the flavour is right for you is better than blindly following the clock.

In Stock Quantities Online may vary due to in store sales. Online quantities are pulled from all of our branches stock levels.

We will only deliver to a New Zealand address at this point in time. We don’t deliver to PO Boxes.
Pickup orders may show available in store on the product page but may not be available in the quantities in your cart. You may have to adjust the quantities in your cart at checkout to be able to pick up at a specific store.

If goods are Not Received within 7 days of purchase, contact us.
Any Damaged or Missing Items from your order must be brought to our attention within 7 days of receiving your order.
If your item is Oversized or More Than 25kg you may be contacted for an additional freight charge to be calculated upon picking of order.
We use Courier Post as our freight provider. Prices and providers are subject to change without prior notice.
To ensure successful delivery make sure there is some one Present at the Delivery Address during business hours.
Delivery times are normally 1-2 days to the North Island and 2-5 days to the South island once dispatched. Rural delivery can take an extra day longer.
